I.  What is Vibrational Relativity Theory?

Vibrational Relativity Theory (VRT) is a third Einsteinian theory of relativity which I discovered after an interesting insight about angular motion which occurred to me January 1997 and which is published on this web site (click here for my bio describing the life circumstances which lead to this theory).  VRT is in answer to the question "Is it possible to 'spin' in an otherwise massless universe?", i.e. "What test could a lone astronaut floating within an otherwise massless universe perform to determine if he (or she) were spinning?"  Just as Einstein's famous question "What would a beam of light look like if one could run along side of the beam at the speed of light?" provided new insights to the relative nature of linear motion, so does the question of "spinning" within an "otherwise massless universe" provide new insights to the relative nature of angular motion.  You have to spin relative to something, i.e. and external frame of reference.  What if there were no external frame of reference relative to which to "spin"?  Hence, I view vibrational relativity theory as the angular velocity equivalent to special relativity (the later dealing with linear velocity).

Though I have studied physics (and almost became an astrophysicist before I became interested in medicine), I am not a physicist and I have not performed the mathematics of this theory, or conducted the mathematical integration with quantum theory.  I will leave that to others.  However, I view myself similar to an amateur astronomer who discovered a new comet, my "comet" being a new insight about motion.  Therefore, I will leave it to physicists and mathematicians to rigorously evaluate my insights to determine whether or not they are true.  However, this web site presents my reasoned  insights and intuition to a dramatically different world view, a world view which integrates science and spirituality (consciousness).  Many you will might stop reading here upon this claim, but I encourage you to have enough of an open mind to keep reading.

II.  What is the fundamental premise upon which VRT is founded?

The fundamental premise of vibrational relativity is the "Principle of Rotational Relativity" (stated below).

FIGURE 2:  Vibrational relativity theory is the angular velocity equivalent of special relativity (the later being a theory about the relativity of angular uniform motion).

PRINCIPLE OF ROTATIONAL RELATIVITY:   "Within an otherwise massless universe, or in circumstances which closely resemble such a universe (e.g. the hydrogen atom) the laws of physics remain the same for all observers in uniform angular motion."

This principle is to be compared to "Einstein's Principle of Special Relativity" which is the basis of Einstein's theory of special relativity (below).

PRINCIPLE OF SPECIAL RELATIVITY:  "The law's of physics (both the mechanical laws of motion and Maxwell's laws of electromagnetism) remain the same for all observers in uniform linear motion".

III.  VRT and the Quest for a Unified Field Theory of Physics

FIGURE 3:  Vibrational relativity theory appears to me to offer an integrating link between between quantum field theory and general relativity.  The integration (reconciliation) of these two great theories is the greatest hurdle for any grand unified theory of physics [REF:  "A Unified Physics by 2050?" by Steven Weinberg, Scientific American, Vol. 13, No. 1].

Figure 4.  Vibrational relativity theory integrates general relativity theory and quantum mechanics via the concept of a vibrational spectrum along the 4-dimensional time axis.  It suggests that atoms (and perhaps subatomic particles) are 4-dimensional vortexes as opposed to 3-dimensional spheres or point particles.  This would explain wave-particle duality.  It would in effect bring general relativity down to the realm of the microscopic.  Note:  by moving the "resonance point" from particle Ma to Mb, Ma goes from being viewed as a particle in curved spacetime to a wave function in uncurved (flat) spacetime.  According to this analysis, it is not matter which distorts spacetime, rather it is the curvature of spacetime which constitutes matter.

TABLE 1:  COMPARISON OF THE GENERAL RELATIVISTIC AND QUANTUM DOMAINS

GENERAL RELATIVISTIC DOMAIN

QUANTUM DOMAIN

SPACETIME CURVATURE curved uncurved or minimally curved
VIBRATIONAL CHARACTER  low frequency vibration high frequency vibration
   WAVE-PARTICLE DUALITY  particulate   wave-like
   SPACETIME LOCALITY   local   nonlocal
LINEARITY OF SPACE & TIME    linear   nonlinear
   DETERMINISM   deterministic   nondeterministic ??

The table above compares the qualities of the two general domains within 4-dimensional reality, and within the 4-dimensional model of the atom.

IV.  The 4-Dimensional Quantum "Syn-atom"

FIGURE 5:  According to vibrational relativity theory, atoms are 4-dimensional vortices (three axes of space and one axis in time) as opposed to 3-dimensional spheres (three axes in space only).  According to VRT, all atoms (and probably all particles) synthetically merge into the non-local quantum domain within uncurved spacetime (hence the name "syn-atom").  According to this view, matter does not distort spacetime, rather, matter IS CREATED BY the distortion of spacetime by the "distillation" of energy from the high vibrational quantum domain into the lower vibrational material domain.  These insights are a radical modification of the Democritean atomistic theory suggesting, in a way, that Democritus was only "half" correct in his atomistic views.  Philosophically, this supports BOTH mechanistic and vitalistic views of the fundamental nature of reality.

FIGURE 6:  The insight that atoms are 4-dimensional energy vortexes readily allows for the integration of the electro-weak force with the gravitational force.  That both the electric force and the gravitational forces are 1/r2 forces now comes as no surprise.  The individual 4-dimensional spacetime distortions associated with each of the atoms of our sun (for example) within the spacetime fabric are additive to what we understand is the sun's gravity.  Note that the electric charges of the electrons and nuclei of each atom are not noticeable over distance because they cancel each other out, yet the spacetime distortion of each atom is transmitted over very great distance.  Gravity is therefore a secondary force with the electro-weak force being the primary force.

V.  VRT Suggests a 4-Dimensional Quantum Relativistic Vibrational Field Theory of Consciousness

FIGURE 7:  Given the 4-dimensional "syn-atomic" view demonstrated in figure 4, it becomes a very straightforward task to derive a new "quantum relativistic field theory" of consciousness which is entirely congruent with the insights of numerous mystics and metaphysicians.  The metaphysical system illustrated above comes from the work of Ken Wilber.  This would suggest that what a scientist calls "energy" and a religionist calls "spirit" are, in fact, one and the same thing!  Note:  this model of consciousness strikes me as being Platonic.

FIGURE 8:  This figure is one of my favorites.  It suggests the integration of science and spirituality, as well as the integration between western spiritual metaphysics and eastern spiritual metaphysics.  Hence, it offers a highly integral view of reality.  Why is this important?  Because if humanity is going to get along peacefully in a global world, cultures have to understand how their world views do not conflict, but rather contribute to a greater overarching view of reality.  Note:  as I use the phrase "Great Chain of Being", I do NOT mean the a social hierarchy whereby the Pope trumps the power of kings, who trump the power of aristocrats, who trump the power of peasants.   Rather, I mean it in a difference sense whereby spirit transcends and includes the soul, which transcends and includes the mind, which transcends and includes the body, which transcends and includes the body (an ontological and epistemological "holarchy").  Note, according to this model brain and mind are not synonymous, hence when the brain dies there is hope that the mind and soul ("psyche") continue to exist.  In this model, the brain is merely an instrument of the soul like a violin is an instrument of a musician.

VI.  VRT Provides a Scientific Foundation for Ken Wilber's All Quadrant - All Level (AQAL) Integral Philosophy

FIGURE 9:  Comparison of two world views:  The diagram at left represents scientific materialism whereby all phenomena are understood to be the result of material particles (atoms) interacting with each other.  This is what the philosopher Ken Wilber calls "flatland" (the collapse of the spiritual Kosmos into the purely material cosmos) and what I call the "barren waste land" view of reality.  The establishment of the Great Chain of Being (right), which I argue vibrational relativity theory reestablishes, provides a "reenchanted vision" of reality whereby love, the soul, and spirit exist as ontological realities.  Hence, mystics were right all along about the soul and spirit, and churchmen were not being superstitious in preserving the truth of the soul during the modern lapse into scientific materialism!

FIGURE 10:  According to Huston Smith (a leading authority on comparative religion) and Ken Wilber, the Great Chain of Being is the fundamental world view which unites all religions.  Hence, a scientific theory which supports the Great Chain of Being may not only reconcile science and religion, but also assist in reconciling the great religions of the world.

FIGURE 11:  Ken Wilber's integral All Quadrant-All Level (AQAL pronounced "aqual") view of reality according to his "integral postmodern" vision.

FIGURE 12:  The figures above demonstrate the scientific (according to vibrational relativity theory) basis of Ken Wilber's "All Quadrant All Level (AQAL) intergral postmodern view of reality.

FIGURE 13:  Now we can better understand Ken Wilber's "flatland" (what I call the "material waste land") view of reality ushered in by modern scientific materialism ("material monism").  According to the material monist, the ground of all being is material hence consciousness (mind, the psyche, the soul) is not really real but rather an "epiphenomenon" of material processes, i.e. neurosynapses carried on by neurological processes.  According to this view, when you die your consciousness permanently seizes to exist because (according to the view) brain = mind, so if the brain dies, then mind dies.

VII.  VRT Supports the MEMEtic Theory of Spiral Dynamics

TABLE 2:  A SPIRAL DYNAMICS (MEMETIC) UNDERSTANDING OF THE KOSMOLOGY SUGGESTED BY VIBRATIONAL RELATIVITY THEORY IN RELATION TO PREVIOUS COSMOLOGIES

FIGURE 13:  The holarchical development toward a grand unified theory of physics from Newtonian mechanics, to Einstein's special and general theories of relativity, and now vibrational relativity theory.  The colors suggest the historical eras (by MEMEs) associated with each of the theories.

It is interesting to understanding this theory from a "spiral dynamics" perspective (click here to learn more about spiral dynamics) since vibrational relativity theory seems to provide the physical scientific basis for Ken Wilber's integral philosophy and Kosmology (click here to learn more about Ken Wilber's work on integral philosophy).

Briefly, spiral dynamics describes a system of eight value "MEME's" which form the basis of various world views according to a cultural (and personal) system of evolutionary development.  These are represented by different colors:  "BLUE" being the Aristotelian geocentric worldview of late premodernity (in the west), "ORANGE" being the early modern world view stimulated by the cosmology of Kepler, Galileo, and Newton; "GREEN" being late modern relativistic world view introduced by Einstein; and "YELLOW" being a highly synthetic "integral" postmodern worldview suggested by Ken Wilber (integral philosophy) and Don Beck (spiral dynamics) which integrates the best of all world views (east and west, secular and spiritual, scientific and religious, premodern and postmodern, etc.).
